How to be a Lead Singer

How to be a Lead Singer

As the lead singer you have more responsibility than
simply the vocal performance. You are the most
recognizable face and name in the band and your
actions have the most impact on the band's long-
term success. Take your role seriously both on and
off the stage.
Difficulty:
Moderate

Instructions

1. Create a charismatic and energetic stage presence.
Sing with emotion and make eye contact. Use your
body language, movement and dancing to keep the
audience interested.
2. Converse with the audience between numbers.
Introduce band members during the performance or
at the end.
3. Connect with fans backstage, during band
appearances and when out in public. Take the time
to sign autographs and pose for pictures.
4. Take the lead during interviews with the media but
share the spotlight. Use every opportunity to
promote your band. Go to events with media
coverage to help boost your band's profile.
5. Help foster healthy relationships among band
members and your manager. Spend time together
socially and encourage everyone's input in
everything from songwriting, bookings and
marketing.
6. Set a good example being on time to practices and
bookings. Having a bad reputation in the industry
can affect your ability to get bookings.
Tips & Warnings
Lead singers often get more recognition when they
write their own lyrics or play an instrument.
Avoid smoking and drinking excessively which can
damage your vocals and end your career as lead
singer.
